4-Week Beginner Ceramics Course

Service Description

This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to try ceramics in a relaxed and friendly environment. You don't need any previous experience, just come ready to learn, experiment and enjoy working with clay. Over four sessions, Gloria will guide you through three basic hand-building techniques: slab, pinch and coil. You will have time to explore each technique and use it to create your own ceramic pieces. In the final session, you will learn how to add colour and finish your work using engobes and glazes. The workshop is about more than learning a new skill. It is a chance to slow down, use your hands, explore your creativity and enjoy making something that is completely your own. Classes are kept small, with a maximum of five people, so Gloria can support each person throughout the process. During the four sessions, you will explore: Session 1 — Slab building Learn how to roll and join flat pieces of clay to create structured forms such as plates, boxes and other functional pieces. Session 2 — Pinch technique Use your hands and fingers to shape clay directly. A simple and intuitive technique that is perfect for getting to know the material. Session 3 — Coil building Learn how to build forms using coils of clay, allowing you to experiment with larger and more organic shapes. Session 4 — Colour & glazing Discover how engobes and glazes can be used to bring colour, texture and personality to your finished pieces. Your workshop includes: 4 sessions of 2.5 hours Clay and materials Glazes and engobes Kiln firing Guidance from Gloria throughout the course Your finished ceramic pieces to take home Gloria has many years of experience working with ceramics and teaching with clay. She began her ceramics training in Ecuador and later continued her studies in Spain.
